Tis the season for DRESS SHOPPING! You got a ring on it- now it's time to start shopping for THE dress! It needs to make you feel gorgeous, first and foremost! But there is a lot to consider when it comes to finding the perfect wedding dress.  We asked Bride to Be to chime in with their most helpful advice and tips for the dress shopping experience.

Mpls Bridal Salon

When should a bride make her appointment to try on dresses?

At a traditional bridal store a bride needs to make an appointment at least six months before the wedding, at Bride to Be, however, everything is Off-the-Rack. When a bride falls in love with a dress at our store, she can take it home that day. We have brides who shop 2 years in advance and 2 days in advance. We suggest a happy medium.  At Bride to Be appointments can be scheduled with 24 hours notice, and walk-ins are welcome during normal business hours!

How long should she plan for?

A typical Bridal Appointment at Bride to Be is scheduled for an hour and a half, but as long as it's not closing time, we're not going to kick you out! We want to provide a stress-free environment for our brides, and we fully understand that sometimes you have to try on a LOT of dresses to find The One.

What can she do to prepare for the appointment?

Do a little research, figure out what you like and don't like. Make a Pinterest board or explore some Instagram hashtags. The more a bride can communicate her preferences to one of our sales associates, the more they can help! Our girls LOVE helping brides find the perfect dress!

Who (and what) should she bring with her?

Every bride is different. Some want their entire entourage, some want to go at it alone. We welcome groups of any size. Whether you're alone or with a group, just know that we're always here to help zip, take pictures, answer questions, give compliments, etc. Brides don't have to bring anything specific to an appointment, but if there are specific shoes or undergarments you plan on wearing, bringing them with can never hurt.

If she falls in love with a dress, what's next? How long does it usually take to get the dress?

At Bride to Be you can walk away with your dream dress in your hand that day! We don't order anything. There is no wait period. Don't want to purchase your dress outright? We have layaway! It's 50% down at time of purchase, with 90 days to pay off the rest. Love the dress, but need to sleep on it? Bride to Be is now offers one day holds.

What if she needs alterations?

In all honesty, almost every bride is going to need alterations, whether you buy a dress off-the-rack or order it. Bride to Be does not do any alterations in house, however, we are happy to recommend some lovely, affordable seamstresses, to anyone who needs them. We suggest scheduling an alterations appointment once you have your dress purchased. Their appointments tend to fill up fast.

When should she shop for her bridesmaid's attire? Can she do that with you?

Bridesmaid dresses typically want to wait till the venue has been solidified, the wedding dress has been chosen, and the color scheme has been picked. Bride to Be has thousands of options for Bridesmaid dresses. We have the largest formal dress selection in Minnesota and we carry sizes 0-32!  We make it easy to find the perfect dress for each unique bridesmaid!

What is something that would surprise a bride about the shopping experience?

The biggest surprise for brides that we come across is what Bridal Consignment really means. Over 75% of our inventory is brand NEW. Most of our dresses even have their original tags still on. You can get a brand new, designer dress at a fraction of the cost. It's a thriftier, greener way to shop for your wedding!

What advice do you have about the shopping experience?

Enjoy every moment! Easier said than done, but shopping for your dress, accessories and decor is going to be just as memorable as the big day. So, have fun!
What is your favorite gown in stock right now?

Anything by Hayley Paige!

What is your favorite "trend" in bridal at the moment?

I love that wedding dresses have gotten SO MUCH more comfortable in the past couple years. No more scratchy tulle or stiff fabric. Dresses are softer and less heavy without sacrificing any of the style!
